It’s not the first time for carriers to put the iPhone 4S information at the websites. The recent one is Vodafone Germany. It shows the iPhone 4S black and white models with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB at the bumper page. (Note weiß and schwarz means white and black separately). By the time we post this, the models are still at the page.

Vodafone Germany is the official carrier to sell iPhone. Where is the iPhone 5? It would be a disaster if there were no iPhone 5 in the upcoming Apple event.

So, I was pretty hard on EA for FIFA 11 in my review last year. It, like the recent Madden 12, was a lazy and/or rushed port of an EA classic that wasn’t worth the full retail price. While the graphics were some of the best you could find on the iPhone 4 when it launched, the pervasive lag and lack of both multiplayer (which did finally arrive months later) and manager mode ultimately killed the fun. Considering that FIFA 10 had been a pretty solid effore that just needed some smoothing out to make a great game, FIFA 11 left a lot of fans pretty flat at release.

Thankfully, EA listened to the criticism and delivered something that fans of the series can be happy about this year, as FIFA 12 is a BIG improvement over its predecessor. The graphics and controls are even better than FIFA 11, the lag is nowhere to be found, and a full-featured Manager Mode has re-appeared. While multiplayer is curiously missing from the iPhone version, EA has included their new Origin service for sharing leaderboards and achievements. Also, the iPad version of FIFA 12 includes a unique feature that allows you to use two iPhones or iPod Touches as Bluetooth controllers to play a 2-player match on the tablet. Considering EA’s considerable investment in the traditional game console establishment, this is a bold and surprising step forward that gives causal gamers a chance to take full advantage of the iPad’s screen real estate.

Hopefully the multiplayer options that made their way into FIFA 11 will come in a later update, but if you are like me, and have been wanting to build up a club, gain promotion to the first division, and make a run at the best cups available, then FIFA 12 is worth every penny.

OK, another little bit of Apple fanboy sacrilege here: I really don’t like the Safari browser much at all on the Mac. Chrome has been by far and away my favorite browser on my MacBook Pro for ages now, and I rarely open Safari for anything other than testing purposes.

My biggest reason for preferring Chrome is that it is fast, very fast indeed. And much faster than Safari. I’m not talking a bit faster than Safari. I’m talking Chrome loads and refreshes pages miles faster than Safari when I have 20+ tabs open in Chrome and one or two in Safari. It’s real tortoise and hare stuff. I know many others say they get different results, but for me Chrome has been kicking Safari’s butt for speed consistently for months now. In Snow Leopard and in OS X Lion.

Another major reason is I just find Safari too clever and designer-ish at the expense of usability, at least for me. Two quick examples of this:

– In Chrome the Refresh button is good-sized and positioned nicely just to the left of the address bar. In Safari it’s tiny and positioned at the end of the address bar, it almost feels hidden to me.

– In Chrome the + button to add a new tab is right next to the last tab in use, right where it feels natural and easy to click it. In Safari, it’s shunted down to the far right-hand side where it takes a moment to spot it, and of course it’s much smaller as well.

Honestly, Safari on the Mac feels to me like it’s far more concerned with being ‘pretty’ than with being effective and functional. Chrome is easier to use and blazing fast.

Oh, and of course Chrome has the brilliant Omnibox as its address bar – so you can type in a URL or a search term and both work and are handled intelligently. Safari makes you enter URLs in one area and search terms in another, which feels awkward and lame once you’ve used Chrome

I’ve been trying out a very old purchase this past week: Todo for iPhone. It all started because 2Do was feeling just a little slower because of the sync on launch settings (which won’t be an issue when the next background sync update arrives), and so I looked through all the task managers I owned that could sync with Toodledo. Todo for iPhone, which I bought for $10 when the App Store first came out, caught my eye.
It’s certainly not the prettiest app around, and I find all of the on-screen extras (tags, search, etc.) a little distracting, but the app does feel pretty fast on my 3GS. Todo syncs seamlessly on launch and exit, lets me batch re-schedule or delete tasks, and is probably way more powerful than I give it credit for.

There’s also something very simple and classy about the blue icon with the white checkmark on it. I’m not sure how long I’ll keep using Todo, but I’ve really enjoyed this week’s experiment (esp. the part where all of my data synced over automatically, so I didn’t have to start from scratch).

I know I can’t be the only one wishing that Apple would finally feature mobile versions of their websites. Of course the sites render alright on iPhone and iPad but the content is simply not displayed in the best way for mobile use.

In particular I wish there was an app for the Apple trailers section, one of my favourites places to go to kill a few hours minutes online. Until we get an Apple app for movie trailers we can use the new iPhone app Can’t Wait – which promises loads of movie trailers, hot off the presses, ready for viewing on iPhone.

You shouldn’t let the inapt name detract you (more on that shortly) the app is a solid if not simple offering – leading in with a feed stream for Just Added, Popular or trailers by release date. There you can discover newly added trailers or search for specific ones. The app aims for social relevance with the integration of a community, where you can share, follow, recommend to others and get tips from others. You have a user profile, you have friends or followers and you have a list of movie trailers that you have either stamped “Can’t Wait” (a-Ha! Get it?!?) or “Gonna Pass”. Of course a middle-ground option is missing here (I’m not always a one or the other kinda gal) but I’m hoping this will be added in a future update.

As you’ve seen I’m not a fan of the name but I’m recommending this app on its mere premise and of course its able execution. I love watching trailers and I love having apps on my iPhone that give me a one-tap way to get to what I want. Can’t Wait delivers on its premise and promises to garner a number of users to its platform, while we wait for others, hopefully Apple among them, to give us a killer trailers iOS app.

This week I’m choosing Gameloft’s iPad version of Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Ayden HD as my pick to share. I grabbed this game a few months ago and finally got around to trying it out. All I have to say is “Wow! THIS is why having a tablet in your hand can change the way you game!”

Take a fairly strong storyline (uniting pieces of the fragmented Grail to defeat the dark lord Amonbane), easy to learn combat moves, puzzles that are just challenging enough, and spectacular graphics, and Gameloft has another huge hit with its self-proclaimed “most ambitious Action RPG ever released on iOS!” Admittedly I don’t get to spend a lot of time playing RPG like I used to, but if I’d had access to this game (and others) and an iPad when I did have the time, I’d have been a killer… at least in my own adventurous RPG mind.

Apple has pushed out a small update to its iBooks app.

The official release notes only state that iBooks 1.3.1 includes a number of important stability and performance improvements, but we've heard reports that it also significantly boosts iBooks' performance on iOS 5, which is expected to be unveiled in full at next Tuesday's Apple media event.

It has been 15 months since Apple rolled out the iPhone 4 and now fans worldwide are gearing up for the next generation model the iPhone 5. The event that is to be held this week is going to be the first event without Steve Jobs and his successor Tim Cook is going to take the lead.

A new iPhone is expected to be revealed with a number of changes. The biggest changes are expected to be inside the phone with the introduction of Apple’s latest iOS mobile software, iOS 5, which was due to be released in the autumn. iOS 5 is said to include things such as wireless device setup and content synching and a beefed up camera. Email and web browsing apps are also said to be improved. A new iMessage service will also allow iOS 5 users to send text messages to each other over Wi-Fi or wireless camera. A new folder called Newsstand is going to contain all newspaper and magazine app subscriptions so it will be easier to find.

A new iPhone is also expected to include Apple’s forthcoming iCloud service which will store content such as music, apps, photos and documents on Apple’s servers and let users access them wirelessly on different devices.

The new iPhone isn’t expected to look that much different from the iPhone 4 but it is thought that it could be thinner and have a bigger screen. An improved camera is also expected. A new hardware change that is to be expected is the inclusion of Apple’s dual-core A5 processor which should improve things such as multitasking and gaming.

All the questions and rumors that have been circulating for some months now will all be laid to rest at this event and once we have the news you will be informed.

Listings for both black and white 8GB iPhone 4 models as well as a variety of iPhone 4S models have appeared online. iFun.de reports (Translated link) that the website of Vodafone Germany currently lists the 8GB iPhone 4 models, as well as 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB versions of the “iPhone 4S” in black and white as compatible with the Elgato Tivizen DVB-T receiver. Previous reports, as well as Apple’s past track record, have suggested that the company would introduce an 8GB iPhone 4 model to replace the iPhone 3GS as its “low end” offering; Apple is expected to announce its 2011 iPhone lineup at tomorrow’s media event.

Several unions and lobbying groups plan to use the iPhone 5 launch to publicize a union contract dispute with Verizon Wireless. The Communications Workers of America, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the AFL-CIO are being joined by MoveOn.org, US Action, and Jobs with Justice to formally announce the campaign on Monday. Dubbed “iWon’t,” the campaign will ask Americans to delay upgrading to the iPhone 5 on Verizon Wireless until the company agrees to a fair contract with its workers. The group plans to conduct online and grass roots outreach, advertising, and leafleting at hundreds of Verizon Wireless stores starting on Tuesday, October 4th, which it believes—probably incorrectly—will be the launch date of the iPhone 5.

This coalition also aims to expose what it refers to as the “Verizon Tax Loophole,” describing the methods that Verizon is using to avoid paying federal corporate income taxes, and plans to lobby the government to force companies such as Verizon to pay their fair share in federal taxes while respecting workers’ rights. The contract dispute reportedly involved 45,000 Verizon and Verizon Wireless workers, who seek to protect their health care coverage and employee benefits.

Last year, Gizmodo got the iPhone 4 before anyone else. This year, they have also got the next generation iPhone 4S also. Unfortunately, this time is not so surprising. It is not due to Gizmodo, it’s due to Apple. iPhone 4S, with the new SKU, just looks like the old one. It was got from the Foxconn’s new factory in Brazil.

That Sprint is buying $20 billion worth of iPhones is kind of crazy. But not as crazy as what Boy Genius just posted: The iPhone 5 is going to be a Sprint exclusive, and it's going to have WiMax 4G.

Specifically, this iPhone 5 will have an even "faster" CPU, with a "larger 4-inch screen similar to LG's NOVA display but with a higher resolution," "iPhone 5 exclusive software and APIs," 32GB of storage and a "dedicated Assistant button" that might somehow be integrated into a new home button. And WiMax. Meanwhile, AT&T and Verizon will get the iPhone 4S, not getting the iPhone 5 until "the first quarter of next year as an LTE device," while "the iPhone 5 might be available as a 4G HSPA+ device" globally.

How could something so ridiculous be true, in any realm of possibility that you and I exist in? That $20 billion deal, supposedly. But um, consider that everything about this seems wrong. The WiMax. The Sprint exclusive. A deal of this magnitude being kept so secret until today, the day before the event. The only thing that would seem wronger would be a rumor that the iPhone 5 is running Android.

I will eat my goddamn hand if this is true. And a whole cow. I hate Apple rumors, but sweet christ do I loathe iPhone rumors. Ughughughughughugh. [Boy Genius]

Tomorrow is Apple's big press event and, as expected, rumors about the upcoming iPhone models are beginning to escalate. In the past several days, the iPhone 4S has been spotted at Cincinnati Bell's website and Apple's inventory system and the iPhone 5 has surfaced at Radio Shack. Today, we can add another entry to this list - Vodafone Germany.

The above placeholder for the iPhone 4S was spotted in listings for various iPhone accessories on the mobile carrier's website. The listing includes both white and black models of the iPhone 4S in 16, 32, and 64 GB capacities. These sizes and colors match perfectly with one expectation for the next generation iPhone model.

Fortunately, we only have to wait until Tuesday to find out whether Apple is releasing either the iPhone 4S, the iPhone 5 or both.

The reason the teardrop iPhone 5 design generated so much excitement is because A, it looked sexy, and more importantly B, it had a larger screen size and no insta-shatter glass back.

The iPhone 4 didn't really need a better processor, more memory, or a better camera. What it needs is a bigger screen and to be more durable.

If there is both a 4S and a 5, then it's a little surprising the 4S would come in 16, 32, and 64GB capacities. I would think that it would be more along the lines of one small capacity for the 4S and 2 or 3 for the 5.

By tonight, all of the rumors of a teardrop-designed iPhone 5 will have ended. Not really sure why people are so infatuated with a new body design - just cause it's new doesn't mean its better. And most of the iPhone 4 peripherals will still work with a 4S.

iPhone 4 owners are starting to sell their used units as Apple prepares to announce its successor. It's a common practice -- sell the "old" tech to help finance the new -- and one Boston-based electronics retailer is already experiencing a significant uptick in smartphone trade-ins and iPhones being offered for sale.

Gazelle's Anthony Scarsella says the current iPhone sell-back is "much more aggressive" than it was when the iPhone 4 was released. Scarsella told The Street that 4,500 people tried to sell their iPhones last week, an increase of nearly 30% from the prior week. If those rates continue, he expects Gazelle to see more than 20,000 customers try to sell iPhones to Gazelle via the web. That would represent 10 times what the company saw with the iPhone 4 transition.

Of course, there are several online vendors willing to buy back your old iPhone. NextWorth is one that I've used, and ReCellular is also offering buy-backs.

Are the people that are selling their iPhone 4 planning to buy the iPhone 5/4S/the new one at full retail? Most people with an iPhone 4 are not eligible for a subsidized upgrade to a new handset.

I don't really understand this. These people are going to be paying $650 or $750 for their new iPhone which I suppose gets offset a little by selling the old one, but it seems like the most logical thing to do is just buy one every 2 years subsidized with the renewed contract.

Because a lot of us are elligable for full upgrade benefits and then we sell our old iPhone and only have to pay like $100.

I do agree with what you're saying, in that it would save people a lot of money going the subsidized route. However some of us just don't want to be on a contract, and the initial amount paid for the consumer goods (in this case the iPhone) isn't a very significant amount.
From my point of view, its just a very nice cool shiny phone (fashion accessory as my wife puts it). I don't store any significant data or information on these devices. (sadly I use a blackberry for business anyhow *cry*)

I don't think anyone is selling any iPhone 4 back. To sell something back it would have to be sold to the source you purchased it from. It's also not a trade in to sell an item to another party.
