Monster Feed is a colorful little tower defense title for the iPad, and it's a little more action-based than most TD titles. A lot of your interaction with the oncoming hordes is actually interactive, as you have not only towers to build and grow but also spells and even summonable minions fighting with you and at your side. Monsters have a few new tricks, too -- rather than just blindly following the paths, some will require you to tap on them or otherwise keep them back as you play. There are a few good ideas in the mix, and especially if you're a fan of the growing tower defense genre, this one seems like a must-see. The iPad app is on sale right now for US $1.99, which is 50 percent off of the usual price. If you don't want to jump right in, you can try a lite version for free. And while the app isn't on the iPhone yet, we're told that it will be soon. If you want to try tower defense with a little bit more actual interaction, give Monster Feed a look.

However the release did not happen so far, while folks are still waiting for a tool to unlock their iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.1 using Windows OS.

Now ih8sn0w tweeted an update on the release date of Sn0wbreeze 2.1:
People think that I’m delaying sn0wbreeze 2.1 until iOS 4.2. No, I’m not. and its not due to chpwn either. Its still a work in progress.
So there you have it… Hopefully Sn0wbreeze v2.1 will be available to jailbreak and unlock your device before iOS 4.2 arrives.
Although in an exclusive comment to iPhoneWorld.ca ih8sn0w had this to say about ETA for Sn0wbreeze 2.1:

iPhone 4 has been unlocked. That’s the news coming via Twitter from the developer of Linux on the iPhone, who tweets under the alias planetbeing:

The iPhone 4 unlock software allows you to use your iPhone on any GSM carrier. The only problem: Planetbeing’s iPhone 4 unlock solution has not been released to the public. Furthermore, iPhone 4 has not yet joined the list of jailbreak solutions.
The tweet that bore the news about the iPhone 4 unlock achievement also boasted this photo of the unlocked iPhone:

In my last post I wrote about Movie Vault, so I'm going to loosely stay with the subject and suggest that you take a look at the recently updated Leonard Maltin Movie Guide. We looked at the original version many months ago, and I think the app is better now.
For US $2.99, you get the complete set of Maltin reviews, and since the app is Internet connected, you get new reviews as they appear.
Here are the things I like: The app is quite fast, and when you start typing a title or a name, it auto-completes. There are trailers for newer films out there. Names of actors and directors become hotlinks that you can click on and perform a search on those names. There is very nice integration to Netflix. You can put a movie in your instant or DVD queue, or you can even move that film to the top of the list. There are also rental links to iTunes, and you can share reviews from this app via email. The app has welcome links to IMDB (for really in-depth info) and Amazon (if you want to purchase a film on disk).
Things I don't like are that the older films tend to have short reviews, and I'd like to see more than a paragraph on many of the films. There are errors, which is to be expected, but I don't like seeing them. For example, all the Anthony Mann films don't appear under his name, but when you look up the missing film, his name is there as director. The search window forces you to select the type of search (title, director, actor) when I should be able to just start typing without the pre-sort.
The app looks great on the iPhone, and this latest version supports the Retina display. The big missing is that there is no iPad version, and I think that is necessary. Scaled up text doesn't look that great, and the trailers suffer too. The developer says they are 'looking' at this option, which is a bit short of a commitment.
If you're a movie buff, I think this app is the best of the movie guides, with a lot of features that just aren't found elsewhere combined into one app. Some more depth, one step search and an iPad version would make it nearly perfect.

As reported earlier today, Apple has updated the App Store app, and with that update seems to come indication that the much coveted white iPhone 4 may be making its way to stores soon. If you open the App Store app and navigate to the "Stores" area, then attempt to make a product reservation for an iPhone, you may note that there are black AND white versions listed. Unfortunately, if one attempts to reserve one of the white versions of the iPhone, you'll get the notice pictured. Attempting to reserve a black iPhone appears to work, though.
Still, this is promising indication that things may be changing soon, if you're one who has been holding out for one of these.

Looking to amaze and impress your gaming friends with a new decal for your iPhone 4? Well then feast your eyes on the Game Boy Color sticker for your iPhone! The vinyl adhesive decal affixes to the back of your iPhone to give that retro-gaming look to your iDevice. The same seller makes the skin in other colors, as well as a classic Nintendo console controller. Each sells for US$6, and it's not exactly clear whether or not they're easily removed once the novelty has worn off. I guess you could always just stick it on a case.
Alright, maybe it won't so much amaze or impress. But old-school gamers will find them just nostalgic enough to prompt a purchase.

The Apple App Store might be a walled garden most of the times, but some applications which we thought would be never seen there do actually end up being approved by Apple. While we may never find out how these got approved in the first place, that is not our area of concern today.
Late last night, a new App known as iDOS made its debut in the App Store. It does precisely what you thought it would do! Run DOS on your iPad! Now, before you rush to download it, let us inform you that it has already been pulled out.
This app is a DOSbox based open source DOS emulator, which offers support for keyboard, mouse and even multiple screen modes. iDos works equally well on the 4th iPod Touch 4G at 960*640 resolution! It had a brief stay at the App Store before being officially booted out. The reason for the removal is still not clear.
In the time which the app was available, some lucky users who managed to download it, have been testing out various retro DOS games and applications on it. The things you could do with this app is mind blowing! A user for example, has even managed to successfully install Windows 3.0 on his iPad using this app. Others in the meantime have run Space Quest, Sierra Adventure games and even Warcraft 2 on their iOS based gadgets using iDOS.

You can also checkout the video of Space Quest running on the iPhone:
That said, Emulator apps has had a history of being booted out of the App Store in the past. Not long ago, the Commodore64 emulator too suffered the same fate. It was however reinstated after the developer made it "compatible" with the terms of the relaxed App Store terms and conditions.
Even though Apple has now pulled the app, there is hope for folks who have jailbroken their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Folks at Litchie have posted instructions on how to install the DosPad - the jailbreak version of the app called on the iPad.
Were you one of the lucky ones to download iDos before it was removed? Let us know what you think of the DOS emulator in the comments below.

The iPhone 4 has had its share of design-related issues. First, the external stainless steel wraparound antenna caused reception hiccups that resulted in the famous "antennagate" Apple event.
Now that a much larger number of the phones are in the wild, there was a brief to-do about the relative likelihood of the iPhone 4's glass back scratching or breaking when the device is slipped into a slider case. Gdgt's Ryan Block later noted that Apple is preemptively working this issue from the engineering side, but that didn't stop the Macalope from chastising his eagerness to declare a new -gate scandal involving the phone's reliability.
What could Apple possibly do with future iPhones to prevent similar hardware issues -- widely prevalent or once-in-a-blue-mood as they may be -- from cropping up once the devices are out of the corral?
Blogger Raymond Wong at SyFy's Dvice site gave this question some thought in a post this morning, and he makes some suggestions about what materials the next and succeeding generations of iPhone might be made of. First, he thinks there could be a move back to plastic, since the material was used in the first three generations of iPhones, is transparent to cell phone signals, and is much more resilient to impacts.
Next, he thinks that aluminum is "off the table for good," considering that it is opaque to cell phone signals and can be scratched, but he thinks there is a good chance that the materials made by Liquidmetal Technologies could be used. They remain scratch-free much longer than aluminum or steel, and could be used in an external antenna like that on the iPhone 4.
Wong thinks that titanium and carbon fiber are also out of the question due to cost. Carbon fiber is extremely light, but can crack under shock, while titanium is strong and light, but tremendously expensive.
What do you think the next generation of iPhones will be made of? At TUAW, we're still waiting for the new models made from unicorn tears and rainbows, but we'd like to hear your ideas in the comments.

Steve Jobs unveiled the new Mac OS X Lion platform last week that saw several iOS-inspired features being incorporated "back to the Mac".
Some of the features on the new OS X include the LaunchPad, Fullscreen apps and Mission Command Control.
Some eagle eyed users have been noticed that the new platform appears to come with many more changes in the interface.
Here is a rundown of these changes:
iOS-like Scroll Bars:
Speculations ahead of the media event pointed out to the possibility of an iOS inspired scroll bar on the new Mac OS X platform that would replace the current Aqua scroll bars. As it turns out, these new scroll bars will indeed be available on the new version. Also, like it is on the iOS, the scroll bars shall disappear from the screen when it is not in use and will reappear when the platform detects scrolling or any other mouse movement.

New Window Resizing Control:
Currently, resizing of windows on Mac OS X is possible only from the bottom right corner of the window. With the new OS X 10.7 version, users will be able to resize windows from any corner.
App Launched/Unlaunched Indicator:
One of the cool things about Mac OS X is the way it shows applications that are running using a light indicator. The latest version of the platform however brings new functionalities like "auto save" and "app resumption on launch", which means there is little to no difference between applications that are actually running and those that are not. Consequently, the new version of the OS will no longer indicate "launched" apps using the characteristic light indicator.

What do you think about these new interface changes? Are there any other interesting UI changes that you have noticed? Tell us in the comments below.

Update #1: Amanda of CraftyGalDecals has offered to donate 10 single packs of the iPhone 4 decal wraps. Leave a comment on this post to receive yours. Let me know if you have a color preference.
Not satisfied with Steve Jobs’ answer to the iPhone 4 antenna issue? To avoid blocking the antenna signal when holding the iPhone 4 left-handed, Jobs says simply “stop holding it that way” or use a case. Gee, thanks. Jobs’ suggestions are not ideal fixes for many people, including Etsy seller CraftyGalDecals, who came up with her own smart solution to the iPhone 4 reception issue.

CraftyGal has devised a simple vinyl strip that blocks the conductivity from your finger from interfering with the iPhone 4 antenna. Although I have not tested the decals myself, they should theoretically work, considering an iPhone case has the same effect. As someone who sometimes likes to go without a case — to get the “real” iPhone experience, as Apple intended — I appreciate this alternative solution.
The decals come in a multitude of colors, and add style to your new iPhone without the need for a case. Plus they will protect the bezel of your iPhone 4. You can purchase them from the CraftyGalDecals Etsy store in single packs or in sets of three.
The seller has offered to donate a few decal sets to my readers, so leave a comment if you want one and I will select the winners by Tuesday, July 6. In exchange for the gift, I simply ask that you come back here and comment to tell me if the decal solved your iPhone 4 antenna problem.
Leave a comment below for a chance to win.

iDon’t piss off users with willy-nilly app rejections.
iDon’t treat my purchasers as if they merely rent me.
iDon’t force a backup per day everytime the user connects to the computer.
iDon’t take forever and a day to perform backups.
iDon’t know how to spell freedom of choice.
iDon’t know why anyone who has me would buy an Android.
…. I’m a user. I DO know.
Comment by iPhone2MyTouch — October 23, 2009 #I do enjoy that Apple checks apps and my phone doesn’t crash because of buggy software.
I can jailbreak if I want to and I won’t get arrested.
It doesn’t have to do backup, the user is to stupid to uncheck that option.
I use a old machine so I go through USB 1 and it’s slow, if I was using USB 2 it would zoom.
I have the choice to have the best phone and that’s why I have a iPhone.
I know why people would buy a droid, because that’s what they want.
Sorry your bashing fell through, now go buy a computer with USB 2, instead of getting a Droid, because you will have the same problems.
